Luka GH-1079

Luka’s Long Term foster home decided he is a perfect fit –Congratulations Luka!

Luka landed in the USA on August 18, 2018. He lived on a breeding farm and was put on the street before he was picked up by a rescue team in Egypt, who connected with GoldHeart to bring this boy to safety. This sweet and handsome young boy (about 3 years old) weighed just 35 pounds at arrival and in the loving care of a seasoned GoldHeart foster home, and with the support of some wonderful vets, he started on a path to wellness. Luka had a low platelet count, was anemic, and tested positive for tick-borne diseases. He started bouncing back with a course of prednisone and doxycycline. Since his first foster home had three other golden boys, and more intensive treatment was anticipated, he was moved in early October to another wonderful foster home where he would be the only dog.

By October 9, Luka passed 50 pounds, yeah Luka! Then by November 8, his new vets ran blood work and decided he no longer needed to get the treatment for his tick borne diseases. Woo Hoo!

With his compromised immune system over the past several months, it was not surprising that Luka developed oral papillomatosis. The wart like growths in his mouth are caused by a virus. Good nutrition and some supplements should speed his recovery, which we hope is within a few months. Luckily, he is not in any pain, and his foster family is enjoying this super sweet boy. He is now learning what it is like to live in a loving home, and is responding well to a life with structure and training.
