Duke GH-551

RIP DUKE

September 10, 2005 ~ August 3, 2017

…Our hearts are broken… Pete and I said goodbye this morning to our Best Dog Ever – Duke…those that know Duke, know this to be true. Thanks to all who loved him (he loved you too), or just met him when he volunteered for GoldHeart and fell in love (he was simply magical). He came to us in April 2011 at age 6, and we quickly knew he was one in a million – a gift from God that we will give thanks for every day of our lives. Duke loved every human, dog, cat…and every other living creature he met. He was the kindest most gentle boy and even his oncologist reported he was the best chemo dog ever (Duke had two types of Lymphoma). Just shy of his 12th Birthday, Duke did amazing work every day of his life. He deserved only the best, and rest assured, he had it until his last breath in our arms. He is now at peace and running and playing with an endless supply of tennis balls and stuffed toys with his brother Buck, sister Paige, and favorite foster siblings Zeus, Roameo, Angel, Buddy, and past sister Taffy…all who also left us too soon (and all were GoldHeart rescues).

“…Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands…” It is not often you can say it was the right day…and we find comfort in knowing it was.

We love you beyond words and will miss you every day beautiful baby boy… thank you for all the gifts you have given us Dukey. RIP — until we meet again.

–Yours forever, Momma Marie, Daddy Pete, Teddy, and Britt

Special thanks to Duke’s awesome Vets and Staff at Chesapeake Veterinary Hospital in Chester, Dr. Peterson and her Team at AVIM&O in Annapolis, Dr. Rachel from Lap of Love; and to my fellow board members, friends and volunteers at GoldHeart Golden Retriever Rescue.

Pictures range from his early days with us to his last…with his GoldHeart brothers Buck (RIP) Teddy and Sis Paige (RIP)
