MOLLY GH-1325

Meet beautiful and super sweet 4-year-old Molly who came into rescue after her loving owner faced medical challenges and could no longer care for her. After arrival into her GoldHeart Foster home in August, she went into heat, and her spay surgery was delayed until earlier this month. Molly quickly charmed her foster family, their son, and just loves the family cat. She gets along with the younger male golden in the house, but he is a little high energy for her and she would prefer a home where she is the only dog, or with another equally calm dog. Cats are great. Please read on to learn more about Molly.

Gender: Female, Golden-Lab Mix

Age: 4 years (birthdate October 14, 2021)

Weight: 73 lbs

Health: Molly, overall, is a healthy girl. She has tested negative for HW, Lyme, and tickborne diseases. She is up-to-date on all vaccines, and is on monthly HW and flea/tick medication. She had her spay surgery on 12-10 and is healing nicely. She also had the benefit of living with one owner (acquired as a puppy). Her foster home noticed after arrival that she would scratch her ears and chew on her paws. Working with the vet over the past few months, Molly is happily getting relief from skin allergies (atopy) and seems to be susceptible to fungal/yeast infections, requiring ongoing veterinary guidance, and she may have lifelong, but manageable care. She’s responding well to her current diet & medicines (Cytopoint & Ketoconazole + Sensitive Skin Kibble). She will thrive with adopters willing to maintain regular skin care and allergy management.

Personality: Calm, gentle, super sweet shadow dog.

Favorite Toys/Games: She likes her silicone balls and stuffies (though she destroys stuffies).  She really loves being brushed.

Interaction with other dogs: Okay – doesn’t like active/hyper dogs.  Best in a home as an only dog or another dog with a very calm demeanor.

Interaction with cats: Great  – no issues at all with the cat in her foster home (see the image in this post).

Interaction with children: She’s only been exposed to a teenager in the foster home (15) and behaves perfectly. Unsure about younger children.

Behavior in Car: She doesn’t really like car rides, but is getting better. She gets very nervous and trembles.  She doesn’t get sick, though. She does well with being buckled in.

People Interactions – home requirements: She would do well with a house with a fenced yard and someone home most of the day. Preferably a home with only cats or an older dog that will leave her be. She enjoys cuddling on the couch and has always been allowed on furniture. If you are looking for a calm loyal companion and someone to keep you company while you work from home – this is your girl. She would also be a great addition to most any calmer home where she can be the center of attention.

Training, Food and Treats: She knows basic commands like sit and down. She does some occasional resource guard with blankets/towels. It’s gotten better but still needs work – we have been teaching her to “drop” items, but not always successfully.

She’s currently eating an Adult Sensitive Skin & Stomach food -Salmon & Rice (for her skin conditions). Treats are salmon treats. The foster home is completely avoiding all chicken & beef products for her and it seems to help.

Leash manners: She needs more work with her leash training (she does pull and even for a calm girl, she is definitely interested in going after squirrels), but has improved tremendously with training. She does well on a 6ft leash. She currently is in a home without a fenced yard, so is always leashed when outside.

Housetrained: Yes. Never had an accident.

Exercise Requirements: Using a 1-5 rating with 1 being a couch potato, and a 5 a very energetic with high exercise requirements, Molly is 1-2. She’s very low-energy.

Fence requirements: She really likes to sniff and take her time outside.  A fenced in yard would be ideal – otherwise, long walks do the trick.

The foster family will learn who is interested in Molly, and approval files will be provided (your GoldHeart home visit report/application/references). In turn, the foster home will review, and contact you directly if they have any questions or want to arrange a meeting with you. Molly is being fostered in Southern Maryland – Calvert County.

If you are not yet approved by Goldheart, and are in our SERVICE AREA, please review our adoption process and then complete an adoption application. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee that must be received before the approval process can start. The approval process can take several weeks, or longer, since we rely on an all-volunteer support network to process your application, conduct the home visit, and check references. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Molly, PLEASE NOTE UNDER QUESTION 5 OF YOUR APPLICATION. If approved, you can then inquire about Molly IF STILL AVAILABLE, OR any other available dog that is looking for a forever home. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
