GH-1138 Joe

LOOKING FOR A FOREVER HOME

AT THIS TIME, due to the high inventory of approved GoldHeart adopters, if you are not already approved, you cannot be considered for Joe, but you can apply and get approval for other future dogs coming into GoldHeart.

Meet Joe

Joe is an extremely docile cream-colored golden retriever. He is a gentle giant that gets along with everyone including dogs of different sizes, cats, babies, and children of all ages.

Gender: Male, Neutered

Age: 1.5, DOB July 17, 2018

Weight: 75 lbs

Health: Joe’s in tip- top shape; and his most recent vet checkup came back great!

Personality: Joe’s GoldHeart foster mom describes this boy as docile. He is sweet and calm, essentially all of the time. He is a gentle giant that gets along with everyone, including dogs of different sizes (he came from a home with another dog and has foster siblings), cats, babies, and children He is not very active, as he likes to be a couch potato or cuddle bug in bed with you. He is timid and will take some time to get acquainted with new situations, and will dart to his “safe spots” (bed or couch at his foster home), when he doesn’t know what’s about to happen.

Favorite Toys/Games: He does not have a favorite game or toy. His foster mom has tried to play fetch with several toys. Joe will grab a stick, but then lose interest shortly thereafter. The art of play is something he may develop later in life, but so far, he does not appear that interested.

Behavior in Car: Joe does not do well in cars, he is very nervous. During car rides, he will pant and salivate. Any car ride longer than about an hour will result in vomiting/diarrhea.

Interaction with dogs: Does great with other dogs. Having another dog companion for Joe is a bonus, but not a requirement. A more confident and welcoming dog “may” help alleviate some of Joe’s fears and can assist in further socialization.

Interaction with cats: No issue with cats. Joe wags his tail, will try to be friends by approaching. If the cat does not reciprocate, he’ll just go about his business.

Interaction with children: Joe is good around children. He acts like he does around adults, sniffs, wags his tail, and will continue to do his own thing.

People Interactions – home requirements: Joe does great with everyone. He is used to a home with a flexible schedule, and is fine with friends, family, and other visitors he may have not met. He rarely barks. Because of his timid nature, he will need his own safe spots, and he does like to cuddle with his humans (being allowed on a couch or bed with his humans would be perfect).

Housetrained? Joe is reliable in his foster home. He has made it 6 hours with no issues during the day, and 8 hours overnight. In his current foster home, he typically goes up to 5 hours w/o a potty or exercise break daily.

Training, Food and Treats: Joe is definitely food motivated. He is not aggressive, just eager to eat. Joe is very timid about when he thinks it’s “safe” for him to eat, and will do best with a spot away from other animals. Here is yet another area that will need work to build his confidence. Joe already knows sit, come, and paw (sometimes).

Exercise Requirements: On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being very energetic and with the highest exercise requirements, Joe is currently a 1-2, he walks extremely well on a leash, walking right by your side, and will stop when you stop. Some days Joe gets run and play time in his foster home’s backyard with a shorter walk. Other days he is fine to do 1 to 2 miles.

Fence requirements: Joe’s foster home has a physical fence, and he wouldn’t mind having one in his forever home. Use of any electric fence is not recommended for this timid/fearful boy.

If you are an approved GoldHeart adopter that is (1) home more often than not and you don’t desire a travel buddy, (2) are not looking for a high energy golden who is just as happy to hang out and cuddle with you.. and it is.ok to join you on the couch or bed, (3) are very patient and can gently work with Joe to continue to build his confidence, and (4) perhaps have a physically fenced-in yard, Joe may be the dog for you. If you think so, please send an email to secretary@goldheart.org to express your interest to be considered for his forever home. Joe is being fostered Northeast of Wilmington, DE area. Joe’s Adoption Fee is $500.

If you are not yet approved by Goldheart, and are in our SERVICE AREA, please complete an adoption application at http://www.goldheart.org/adopting-a-golden/adoption-application/. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee that must be received before the approval process starts. The approval process can take 6 weeks or more since we rely on an all-volunteer support network to process your application, conduct the home visit, and check references. If approved, you can then inquire about any other available dog that is looking for a forever home. Thank you for your patience and understanding
