Gunner GH-1125

Meet Gunner

Gunner is a super sweet pure Golden. His owners moved and could not take him with them and turned to GoldHeart to ensure an awesome next chapter.

Gender: M, Neutered

Age: 12, DOB October 25, 2007

Weight: 82 lbs.

Health: Gunner has tested positive for Cushing’s Disease, which is being treated with medication. He needs to be on Vetoryl/trilostane for the remainder of his life. He takes one capsule per day. A 30-day supply from a discounted pharmacy costs about $100 (or $3.33 per day); and we have identified another source that will drop the cost to just $2.01 per day – with an order quantity of 100 chewable pills. He also has an occasional issue with urinary incontinence and wears a belly band in his foster home. During the past month, he has only wet his belly band 3 or 4 times. Otherwise, he is a healthy, happy, somewhat energetic boy.

Personality: He has a super personality and will end up melting some family’s heart.

Favorite Toys/Games: He is not much for playing and would rather lay by you and be petted. He does love to chew on deer or elk antlers.

Interaction with other dogs: Gunner gets along with his foster siblings and would love to have another dog play with or just be around.

Interaction with cats: Unknown.

Interaction with children: Gunner has met and been around children, ages 5-13, and all interactions have been positive. He has not shown any aggression or “mouthy behavior”. He has only been with kids for short periods at church. His foster family does not have children in their home. We are sure that he would adjust to a family with kids readily. He would certainly enjoy children who understand and love dogs and can give him lots of love.

Behavior in Car: Calm. Most of the time you don’t even know he is with you. He has never been car sick and is always ready to go.

People Interactions – home requirements: Gunner is used to a home with a flexible schedule, and is fine with friends, family, and other visitors. His people are currently home most of the time, and he and his fur siblings rarely are alone for more than 4 hours w/o a potty – exercise break.

Housetrained? Gunner is reliable in his foster home. He is house trained and has been fine with run of the house for 4-5 hours. First potty call is around 8:30-9:00 AM and last potty call is around 1:30 AM, with many outside breaks in-between, he has made it 6 hours no problem during day, and 8 hours overnight.

Training, Food and Treats: Gunner loves to eat. He will go into a “happy dance” when his food is being put down. He is not picky and will eat almost anything. He is being fed twice a day with both dry and canned.

Exercise Requirements: On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being very energetic and with the highest exercise requirements. Gunner is a solid 1. He does need more training to walk on a leash. He will play with his 2 ½ year old foster brother for short periods. Typically, they playfully attack each other and will chase each other around the house or yard. Gunner handles the 5 steps to/from the yard, but occasionally needs 2 or 3 tries to get started.

Fence requirements: Gunner’s foster home has a physical fence, and he would enjoy having one in his forever home. It doesn’t have to be huge, just large enough for him to roam around and see if any small animals have been in the yard.

If you are an approved adopter and think Gunner could be the boy for you, please contact his foster home at hickmank@yahoo.com. Gunner is being fostered in La Plata, MD.

Adoption Fee:  $150

So, if you are not yet approved by Goldheart, and are in our SERVICE AREA, please complete an adoption application at http://www.goldheart.org/adopting-a-golden/adoption-application/. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee that must be received before the approval process starts. The approval process can take 6 weeks or more since we rely on an all-volunteer support network to process your application, conduct the home visit, and check references. If approved, you can then inquire about Gunner if still available, and you can also inquire about any other available dog that is looking for a forever home. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
