Sadie GH-1123

Meet Sadie. If you are looking for a new gorgeous family member with a super sweet personality, Sadie may be the girl for you! She is a special needs Golden Cream lass with neurological issues, but that is also part of her charm. Sadie does great with her foster siblings, and is learning what it means to live in a house (she previously was in a breeder’s kennel) and she would love a home that wants to show her the ropes and give her all the guidance, socialization and loving she so deserves.

Gender: F (Spay required by Age 1)

Age: 7 months

Weight: 43 pounds

Health: Sadie is being seen by a  veterinary neurologist, and her clinical diagnosis is she has hydrocephalus. This is based on her neurological exam, her domed shaped head, and information provided to GoldHeart when her breeder turned her over to rescue. The diagnosis was recently confirmed by an MRI paid for by GoldHeart. She is bright, alert, with just a slight (and somewhat adorable) head bobble.

Sadie has started on medications (Prednisone and Omeprazole) and will continue under the care of her neurologist, and her forever home will be required to continue with medication protocol and visits to a GoldHeart approved neurologist for check-ups. For more information about Sadie’s health and treatment plan, please contact president@goldheart.org.

In addition, due to her young age, Sadie will be adopted out with a GoldHeart Puppy Contract, and her forever home will need to have Spay surgery performed. Proof of spay (vet invoice/neuter certificate) will be required, and upon receipt, **GoldHeart will reimburse her forever home up to $100 towards the surgery cost.

Personality:  Very active, loves all the attention she can get, very sweet temperament.

Favorite Toys/Games: Sadie was in an outside pen, since she was old enough to leave her mother, so she is just learning to play with some toys. No interest in a ball at this point.

Interaction with other dogs: Tries to get the other dogs to play and is submissive.

Interaction with cats: Unknown

Interaction with children: She is good with children, but does jump up.

Behavior in car:  Crated in the car, but comfortable.

People Interactions – home requirements: Foster mom has been taking her out in public to meet people. She makes friends very easily. Does not shy away from people. Sadie needs someone who is going to continue her training and show her what the good life is all about. She is crated when no one is home, she would do better with someone who is not gone 8 to 10 hours a day. Also looking for a home with another dog to teach her things and a dog she can look to for reassurance. She is not allowed on the furniture in her foster home. She needs someone to show her what snuggle time is all about because she did not have that before. She will go in the bedroom and grab socks, shoes whatever is laying around but has not chewed anything.

Training, Food and Treats: She is learning sit, down and off.  Come and stay are not yet in her vocabulary. Sadie is on Eukanuba for Large Breed Puppies and gets Eukanuba treats.

Leash manners: Sadie walks very well. Foster mom is using both martingale collar and a harness because at first she was afraid to walk on the road and tried to bolt. Each day gets better although she will sit down as if to say “I’m not going any further” but with some persistence she will do a mile.

Housetrained: Not completely, she will go to the door and stand there and not bark or whine. She will pace very nervously when she needs to go out.

Exercise Requirements: On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being a very energetic dog, Sadie is a 4.

Fence requirements: A fenced in yard is a requirement, no electric fence because of the hydrocephalus.

If Sadie sounds like the dog for you, and you are an Approved GoldHeart Adopter, and feel you have a home that meets the requirements included above, and you can commit to supporting Sadie’s medical needs, please express your interest to president@goldheart.org. Sadie is being fostered in the South Central PA area.

Adoption fee: $600**
