Eli GH-1105

LOOKING FOR A FOREVER HOME

NOTICE: If you are an approved adopter and sent an email inquiry about Eli to his foster home between May 7 – May 8, we may have missed it.  Please resubmit to corrected email below – thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

This is Eli, a strong 1-1/2 year old English Cream Golden Boy. His energy level is a 9 out 10. He has a very loving personality and is eager to please. Expect your face to get licked when you give him hugs. Eli came to us as a crated dog. He has been weaned out of the crate. When out of the crate, he enjoys walking throughout the house and returns with any article of clothing. At night he sleeps on the bed with our other dogs to keep everyone warm. Eli is a velcro dog as he follows you any time you walk around the house. He’ll join you on the sofa to cuddle and watch TV…Eli just loves watching TV!

Mealtime is a bit stressful. He barks and jumps in anticipation of the meal being prepared. He goes into a frenzy when the bowl is being taken to his eating area. We try to make him sit before setting the bowl, and he has made tremendous progress. He is eating from a bowl designed to slow his eating down and this has helped.

He is living with our three Goldens. He gets along with each of them (male and female) and has learned to respect each of their spaces. He knows sit and down most of the time. Eli is starting to respond to the word “No” as he counter surfs or gets into something not ideal. We have witnessed improvement in his behavior in the short few weeks he has been with us. A $150 training deposit will be required. It is a mandatory for Eli to go through training, with prior approval from GoldHeart of the training program/plan selected. This deposit will be refunded to the adopting home when GoldHeart receives certification of Eli successfully completing the training.                  .

Eli has a lot of energy to burn. A fenced yard is a must as he enjoys to run free. His leash behavior is very poor. Once a harness was tried, we had better control during short walks. Eli is very strong and many times does not know his own strength. For this reason, he would be better in a home with no small children. Eli would do best in a family that has the patience and time to work with him. He is fine with being crated for short times (going to dinner, grocery shopping, etc…). It would not be fair to Eli if all working members of the family were away 8 hours a day and he was crated.

AT THIS TIME, DUE TO THE HIGH INVENTORY OF APPROVED GOLDHEART HOMES, ONLY THOSE THAT WERE APPROVED AS OF MAY 7TH, WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR ELI’S FOREVER HOME.

If you are already an approved GOLDHEART adopter, and you have a home that can meet Eli’s needs, please express your interest to his foster home at goldenlover4276@gmail.com (email updated). Eli is being fostered in the New Castle County area of Delaware.

If you are not yet approved by Goldheart, and are in our SERVICE AREA, please complete an adoption application at https://goldheart.org/adopting-a-golden/adoption-application/. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee that must be received before the approval process starts. The approval process can take 6 weeks or more since we rely on an all-volunteer support network to process your application, conduct the home visit, and check references. If approved, you can then inquire about any other available dog that is looking for a forever home. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
