Jaden GH-1094

UNDER EVALUATION

Welcome to Joyful Jaden

With updates 12-5 after Neuter Surgery…

He is a super sweet 10 year old Golden boy, who found his way to GoldHeart during the last week of November, after his owners decided to turn breeding responsibility over to his son. We were told that he lived with the same family his entire life, yet sadly, lived outside the house in a shed with his son. His primary mission in life was breeding. We were also advised Jaden did enjoy leashed runs with his owner’s son. Seeing his physical form and watching  him in action in his foster home, there is no question he would be a great running buddy. According to his owner, Jaden has always been very healthy. After his vet visit we learned that his blood work was perfect, he is both Heartworm and Lyme negative, and he is an active and agile slim guy, weighing in at around 65 pounds. He does have roundworms and whipworms (not surprising for a dog that lived outside), and his teeth need a good cleaning. He is  under a de-wormer regimen, and was neutered today, teeth were cleaned, and he will be recovering for about two weeks in his foster home. The Vet recommended he start on daily Cosequin, and he is starting that now. He has a lot of energy, and his past owners said he is good with all people, other dogs and cats.

Jaden is now learning what it is like to live in a home and is doing very well and is already reliable overnight.  As you can imagine, everything about living in a home is new to him, so it is a little like enjoying an older puppy that is joyfully inquisitive and needs to learn the ropes. He listens well and so far seems to be very easy to train. He certainly has all the golden traits owners love and he lives to please! He is responding quickly to corrections, knows sit, down and quickly goes into a submissive position for a belly rubs. He responds to Off, Wait, Come, and has a very soft mouth when using the Easy cue. He loves picking up toys and is great at playing fetch and yes, he will release the ball!  He does great riding in a car (need to restrain him from wanting to jump in your lap though) and he has no issues jumping up into vehicles to enjoy the ride! He came into GoldHeart with much longer beautiful reddish hair and lots of mats that required clipping, so his gorgeous coat will eventually grow back, but as you can tell, he still looks so handsome! He did great at the groomer and everyone fell hard for this boy.

In his foster home, Jaden is generally ok with his foster sisters who are much calmer seniors too, and as long as they have their own space, life is peaceful  (his foster sisters, both from GH, include an age ten red golden much like him and a lab mix – age 12).  As you can imagine, Jaden is trying to figure out how he is supposed to interact with sharing living space with two Ladies 24/7 and not hump them. He loves his soft beds and super-sized gated areas that are being used to slowly introduce him to the good life inside a home.  He actually seems to like the security of having his own “room.” Neutering should help after his hormones settle down, and in the interim, setting limits to interactions with the other dogs and guidance from his humans is working well.

A home with a fenced yard is on his wish list for easy potty breaks and to limit risk of this curious boy taking off since he loves to run.  Plus, he is a very strong leash puller (when using a  neck collar). We have fitted him with a two clip freedom harness for daily mile walks (he could definitely do more) and he is so much easier to manage – yeah! He will need lots of interactions and exercise. In the fenced yard Jaden has run with his foster sister, and she has engaged play, but he would rather play fetch with humans. A home without other dogs would be great since this boy definitely wants all your attention. Dog savvy older children should do fine with him too (but he still jumps on occasion and is a little mouthy and vocalizes his dismay sometimes and is easy to correct). He has only barked in the yard when the neighbor’s dog comes out, and otherwise, is vocal when he gets into a tiff with one of his fur-sisters.

Jaden should be able to start the search for his forever home in three weeks after he recovers from his neuter surgery and finishes round two of his dewormer. Wouldn’t it be great if he could be in his forever home to start the New Year? No question that Jaden will be a loving, playful and caring companion for one of our approved GoldHeart homes.

Please check back soon for updates!

If you are not yet approved by Goldheart, and are in our SERVICE AREA, please complete an adoption application at https://goldheart.org/adopting-a-golden/adoption-application/. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee that must be received before the approval process starts. The approval process can take 6 weeks or more since we rely on an all-volunteer support network to process your application, conduct the home visit, and check references. If approved, you can then inquire about Jaden, or any other available dog that is looking for a forever home. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
